Caterham District Cubs Cross Country

The winning team from Woldingham

This year’s Cub Scout Cross Country, was very wet. I had a few telephone calls during the afternoon asking if it was still going ahead, and decided that it probably would. On the way there, it was raining very heavily and I decided that we probably wouldn't run. When I got there, I walked onto the course which was very slippery and muddy. I then went to the car park where parents were standing, huddled under umbrellas or sheltering in cars. However, the Cub Scouts were running around in the rain, very happy, jumping in the puddles and mud and looking forward to the race, so it was on.

The first race for the younger Cub Scouts was won by Oliver B from the 3rd, second was George T from the 11th and third was Thomas S from the 8th. The team trophy was won by 3rd Caterham.

In the older race they were joined by several of the younger runners just for the fun of it. Zak from the 11th won again, followed by Mathew J from the 5th and the first girl in the winner’s list, Abi W from the 1st. The team trophy was won by Woldingham.

The overall winners of the combined trophy were Woldingham. Congratulations to all the runners, well done for taking part, and let’s hope the weather improves next year. Thanks also to the ‘hare’, Michael Burtenshaw, who ran both races.
