SURREY POLICE ARE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR UNSUNG HEROES
Please see article below for information about a youth award organised by Surrey Police
Hello - my name is Nathan Rees from the Press Office at Surrey Police and I am getting in touch with youth organisations across the county to highlight our Local Heroes Awards 2009. This year we would really like to get as many nominations for young people as possible.

The awards are in their second year and are split into five categories including the Young People in the Community Award. The award recognises individuals or groups under the age of 18 that have made a positive contribution to their community. This could be someone who volunteers to help others in their area, gives up their spare time to help run clubs and organise events or perhaps someone who is an inspiration to their peers.

Young people don't always get the credit they deserve for the positive contributions they make to society and we hope these awards can go a little way to changing that. If you know any young people who you think deserve recognition for the work they do then why not nominate them for the Young People Award? Equally if you know anyone who fits one of the other categories, perhaps a youth leader who goes above and beyond for teenagers in their area, then all nominations are more than welcome.

Last year's winners of the Young People Award were teenagers Emily Forward, Helen Morrow and Amy Luxford. Emily, from West Molesey, was part of the 2006 Army Cadet Force's Outreach Project and won the award for her leadership qualities and reputation as a mentor to others on the course. Helen, from St Johns, was recognised for running the St John's Church Youth Group for young people and organising other local events. Amy, from Guildford, was honoured for being an inspiration to others at the UniSport Saturday Sports Club at
the University of Surrey.

This year's winners will be invited to attend a special ceremony at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking on Wednesday 24 June to receive their awards. The closing date for nominations is Friday May 15. I have enclosed below the link to our nomination form on the Surrey Police website and the press release explaining a little more about the awards. If you require any further information please don't hesitate to contact me.
